today was extremely warm and humid. tomorrow will supposedly be even hotter.

i've found some plants who are just thriving in this heat, and some just begging for a little coolness.

zucchini - this vegetable is just a-mazing. the heat only spurs more overall growth, more flowers, more zucchini. what was a tiny zucchini this morning, is at a normal size in the evening. i think if i set a chair in front of the zucchini forest and just stared at it on a hot day, i would be able to see it grow.

cucumber - same as the zucchini, although its a creeper, not a out-and-upward grower. i am just worried about this plant not getting enough water because i would hate to bite into a bitter cucumber. with this heat coming up, i will probably water this plant every morning.

sugar snap peas - 3 words...cool weather plant. yep...this one is going down, and painfully slow at that. i'm trying to keep this plant alive as long as possible, since it is just producing peas left and right. its great, and my birds love it the best. i will eventually have to till it into the ground, but i'm hoping that is about a month out.

tomatoes - these just thrive in the heat. the growth on this is almost as strong as the zucchini. like with the cucumber, i need to keep on with the watering of these plants since there are green tomatoes everywhere. but i saw some spotting on one of them so i really have to watch out with how i water these plants - water low and NOT on the plant itself as much as possible.

nasturtium - well, this plant is supposed to take the heat, but i guess there is a limit to how much heat this poor plant can take. with today's sun, some of the leaves on my nasturtium plants have crisped on the ends.

pepper plants - i think these are doing very well in the heat, even the ones that i have been worrying about in the left garden. they are all actually full of leaves and i see small buds on them too!

green beans - the planted ones in the left garden still look very sad. one of them even has a crispy-ended leaf! i don't know what is going on. i thought it was too much water because after stopping the water for a couple of days, i really thought the green in the leaves were getting to the normal green color, but today, they are still a light lime green color. ugh! and the bean plants planted every where else are growing wonderfully! i guess i have to avoid planting bean plants in the left garden, period.

the small german chamomile that i planted in the ground everywhere are either dead or dying. its just too much heat for them. i am going to keep my potted chamomile seedlings in there for a while, at least until they get their second or third real set of leaves.

the grape plants are thriving...lots of new growth. no grapes, although i think they grow fruit in cooler months...correct?

no changes in the sweet potato plant. lots of leaves on it..its like a tight ball of leaves...no creeping growth yet.

the watermelon plants are still on a good growth pace. i just need to water it daily.

the best part about growing veggies? the sharing of my crop. i have a very humble plot of land, compared to the people who write garden blogs that i read. but with the 4 zucchini plants, 7 japanese cucumber plants, and 4 sugar snap pea plants, i have been able to give veggies to 6 families, including ours. soon i will have tons of tomatoes (14 plants), lots of peppers (hopefully!), soybeans, bush beans and watermelon to give out and enjoy myself. i love giving my vegetables to people who enjoy eating them as much as i do. it really gives me a sense of accomplishment and it is my way of helping out my community.
